Okami Kult in Shibuya

What better location than Shibuya, Tokyo to shoot some street style. I've mentioned in previous posts that Viktor is the creative mind behind the Tokyo street wear brand Okami Kult. This time I styled one of his logo T-shirts my way with some of my favorite accessories and street-inspired pieces in my closet. And the backstreets of Shibuya are home to some of the coolest graffiti and other street art. I think the photos speak for themselves. Enjoy!

Venice Beach

Venice Beach is the epitome of a Californian oceanside paradise. You got your cloudless clear blue skies, vast ocean, palm trees swaying in the wind, colorful graffiti walls (and palm trunks!), the quirky souvenir shops along the Boardwalk, cafes and clothing boutiques on Abbot Kinney... and the list goes on. My friend Tina introduced me to areas I've never explored, including a delicious ice cream parlor from Portland called "Salt & Straw" where we tried a goat cheese & black olive brittle ice cream. Coming straight from freezing Japan, this ocean breeze was exactly what I needed to revive myself. Thanks Tina for a much-needed day trip!

Velvet & violet

There are so many ways to dress up a fur coat, but there are also just as many ways to style it down. I actually like how a plush violet faux-fur coat looks with light-wash denim. I got this pair at the Moussy opening renewal party in Harajuku, and they are my favorite right now. And my velvet open-back top makes its debut after, what, 5 years?? Purchased back during my college days, I loved how it looked but I couldn't find a great way to style it. It definitely looks good with high-waisted denim and some gold accents.

Don't forget to check out my photographer's other work here at www.36neex.com! I love how these photos turned out despite the limited time we had to shoot. Thanks Yoshi!

still a california girl

(Shirt:old from Urban Outfitters; shorts: uniqlo; clutch: Dezso; sandals: Target)

I spent a relaxing Friday at Daikanyama with my photographer friend, who took these photos for me. Having a nice lunch at Urth Caffe and carrying around my favorite Dezso clutch doesn't really make me miss California all that much.

Have a great weekend everyone!

2013 in Tokyo

(shirt: Urban Outfitters; jacket: vintage; shorts: vintage Levi's; boots: Doc Martens;
tights: J.Crew; bag: Zara)

Happy New Year everyone! I'm so excited to be writing my first post of 2013 :)
Today, I spent the afternoon running around Tokyo with my uncle, who I hadn't seen in 7 years. We decided to pay our first visit of the year at Meiji Jingu Shrine in Harajuku before heading over to Tokyo Tower. It was actually our first time going up the tower, even though my uncle grew up near Tokyo. I guess you neglect doing all the tourist-y things when you know you can do them anytime. Anyways, we went at the perfect time of day - we were able to see the beautiful sunset from the top of the tower, with Mt. Fuji in the distance. So breathtaking. I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend my New Years in Japan. On a side note, the jacket I'm wearing was a lucky find - snagged it for 1500 yen ($15) at a used clothing store yesterday. One goal for 2013: go thrift-shopping more often.

Wishing you all a lovely start to 2013!

Love,

Samantha Mariko
